Do We Notice Other People's Underarms, or Just Our Own?

Aloha! I'm Sachi, and I own Ululani Spa, a Japanese Skin care Studio. Specializing in laser hair removal here in Honolulu.
Can I ask you a slightly strange question?
How often do you notice someone else's underarms?
I notice them quite a bit. I know.
That probably sounds a little strange... But it's an occupational habit.
I'm not looking to see whether someone has hair. I'm looking at their skin.
"That looks like razor burn."
"It looks a little irritated."
"I wonder if she's self-conscious about the darkening there."
Those are the things that catch my eye.
And every time, I find myself thinking,
"I wish I could make things a little easier for her skin."
That got me wondering.
Do people actually notice other people's underarms?
Or... are we mostly thinking about our own?
The other day, one of my clients suddenly looked at me and said,
"I'm like a goat."
We both laughed.
Then she said, “Seriously, I shave every morning, and by the evening it’s already prickly again.”
Honestly, it was a pretty accurate description.
“That’s why I think about it every time I raise my arms in yoga.”
That stayed with me.
Maybe it wasn’t really the hair. Maybe it was having to think about it every single day.
As I walked her to the door after her treatment, she said,
“I’m actually looking forward to my next yoga class.”
Maybe she felt just a little lighter.
That made me happy, too.
